A game of chance?
Like all Card games, chance prevails to some extent to determine the winner in Classic Rummy.
- Shuffle of cards, a play of chance:
The shuffling done at the start creates a state of uncertainty, not predictable even by the aces. Truly, you cannot take a wild guess at what could show up next from the stack, leaving it in the hands of “fate” or “destiny”! - A close watch, your winning part:
Closely tracking the cards that have been discarded and developing an understanding of how to estimate your opponent’s moves beforehand can determine the distinction between win and loss. - Discard those right, see a winning light:
Generally high value cards lead to upping the penalty and low value cards may act as “blockers” disrupting the formation of “melds”. Middle value cards act as connectors, hence aim at discarding the low and high value cards so that you can accelerate your discarding towards the end. This technique can be developed through patience and practice. - Balance the pass, Discard and Draw:
Too frequent discarding of the high value cards may however lead them being picked up by opponents and being used for their advantage. A fine balance that comes with practice, practice and more practice shall help you succeed in this game. - Probability strikes, for a future bright:
Now here’s the chance to apply all that mathematics and probability you learnt in real-life. Track the cards gone by and left. A game of chance, which can be estimated through keen math acumen and observation – interesting right? A great memory goes a long way in arriving at this estimation.
